Area of Focus: Mentorship/Community Service
The Edith Duffey Senttell Scholarship celebrates individuals who excel both on and off the court, honoring Edith Duffey’s legacy as a basketball player at California Baptist University and a professional athlete in New Zealand. Inducted into the CBU Hall of Fame, Edith’s dedication to her sport was matched only by her commitment to family and community. This scholarship is awarded to student-athletes who exemplify her values—balancing athletic excellence with a deep sense of service and leadership.
Application Criteria
- Must be an AVID member in good standing for one year
- Must have taken or will take at least one AP class, dual enrollment or college course
- Must attend a four-year college
- Preferably a prospective first-generation college student
Essay (600-800 words)
What qualities do you look for in a mentor and what kind of mentorship do you think you will need in your journey navigating college? How will you honor the legacy of Edith Duffey with this scholarship? How will this scholarship help you? What qualities do you possess that may one day make you a mentor to others? How do you see yourself uplifting others and/or “paying it forward”. What experiences or contributions have started you on this path? Include any volunteer work (at least 20 hours) that has prepared you for this endeavor.
